The weekend started well with myself and Rick topping the times in free practise. It was a great Saturday with Rick qualifying 2nd in class and myself in 3rd just one tenth off pole. After the close times in qualifying it looked like the race was going to be one to watch.
In race one Rick managed to get the lead on the first lap and started to pull away from everyone. When Rick pitted for the driver change he had a massive 20 second lead. All I had to do was go out and maintain the gap. Feeling confident I was lapping at a comfortable pace, I finished in P1 to find I had extended the lead to over 40 seconds! It was a fantastic feeling to keep up our glory after Silverstone but it felt even better standing on the top step!
I started 3rd in race two and 3 laps in passed Dan Eagling for second place. Unfortunately two corners later the car cut out and I had to pull on to the grass to avoid causing a safety car. I lost 40 seconds on the side of the track trying to restart the car. Eventually the car started and I was on my way. Falling from second to last in class, my aim was to simply finish and get as many points as possible. I had begun to catching the rest of the pack and at the driver change we were 30 seconds behind P2 and 50 seconds behind P1. Rick drove an exceptional stint, out pacing all of his rivals. A mere 3 laps before the chequered flag rick passed the APO Sport G50 to take the lead. He brought the car home in P1 to secure our second win!
This was a fantastic victory for us considering the circumstances in the race. I think these results have really boosted Rick’s confidence and I am looking forward to the next round of the Championship at Brands hatch, where we will be looking to extend our championship lead and our winning streak!
